hike by the sea

It has been a great weekend. On Saturday I walked out to Reversing Falls and took some interesting pictures of the large blocks of ice around the falls. It was a really nice day with clear blue skies and warm temperatures.
On Sunday Paul Mooney and I went for a hike along the penninsula south of the hamlet. The day had started out rainy and we weren't sure we would go, but then it cleared up around 10:00, and we set out. As we went the weather got nicer and nicer; the sun came out and there was no wind. We had a great hike of about four hours, and saw places that neither of us had seen before. The sea ice is so beautiful right now with a bit of water on top making interesting patterns against the blue tint of the ice itself.
Today (Monday) is foggy so I'm glad we got the hike in yesterday. I will be going into school today to get some more work done on the final exams. There are only 81/2 days of classes left before the exams. The end is in sight, and I'm beginning to sell off my stuff in preparation for coming home. The weather is warming up, but as you can see from the pics there is still lots of snow and ice around. I've had to put garbage bags over my bedroom window to keep it dark enough to sleep. There are only about 2 hours of darkness here now, and over the next month it will get so that it is light all night long. Not sunlight here, because we are south of the Arctic Circle, but a fairly bright dusk. I hope you have all had a good holiday weekend.
