hike to Iqaijuq falls

Hi everyone. Today was a beautiful day here and my friend Paul and I decided to hike to a falls that we had seen last Thursday while on our boat cruise. It didn't look too far on the map but the terrain was extremely rugged and we had to cross some very high hills to get there. It was certainly worth the effort however. The scenery along the was was breathtaking. One of the hills we went over had a geodetic triangulation marker on it with a large cairn built beside it. It had to be the highest point for about a 15km radius so we had a great view. The falls themselves are also very beautiful and we got a totally different perspective of them than can be had from a boat. We started atnine in the morning and got back around four in the afternoon, two pretty tired old guys! When we first started out we visited the site of the original RCMP detachment in the area which is located across the harbour from Kimmirut. All in all we had a great day although we didn't see any wildlife. There are signs of caribou all over the land but they are very wary.Till next time.
