I'll be home for Christmas
Hi. This is my last posting from Kimmirut before heading home. My flight leaves here at 10:15AM tomorrow. I have about an two hour layover in Iqaluit, and then catch a flight to Ottawa. Another hour layover, and then I should get into Toronto around 6:00PM. That's if the weather cooperates. I was worried about the weather here, but it appears as if the weather in Ottawa and Toronto is more of a concern. Hopefully the storm in Ontario will be over by later in the day.
We had our school Christmas concert last night. It was quite the affair; chaotic, but the kids had a good time, and the parents seemed to enjoy it. Today the students spent just cleaning up the school, taking down decorations etc. so it was a relaxing day. We sent the kids home about 2:00 so the staff could have a little get together and have a final day of 'secret santa'. I managed to get out around 1:00 to get a picture of the harbour to show the sleds on it and the ice wall that forms around the rocks because of the tides. The rocks are cold enough to make ice right out of the sea water. It just keeps building up,layer by layer, as the tide comes and goes, more or less like dipping a candle. I'm told that by spring it will be quite thick.
Hope to see many of you during the holiday. Merry Christmas!
Jim
