It's still winter!
This has been a crazy week for the school. Monday was a holiday; Tuesday morning, school was cancelled for a funeral; Wednesday we had a whole day of school; Thursday morning there was a second funeral, then on Friday we had a lockdown from 11:45 until almost 4:00. I don't know all the details, but there was a standoff between a man with a gun, and the RCMP in a house right across the road from the school. We moved all the children from that side of the school into classrooms in the other side. The thirty or so high school students we took to the kitchen/cafeteria. It was a very tiring upsetting day. The high school students were the worst as we actually had to guard the doors to keep them inside. This coming week will be disrupted as well as the big-wigs are coming in from Iqaluit Wednesday and Thurday to meet with staff. At least we won't have students to deal with. We really only have about 25 days of classes left this year before we are into exams. From what the others tell me, not much learning will occur because as the days get longer, students stay up until all hours and are not fit for much in school. As well many students go camping/hunting with their families at this time.
Yesterday was a sunny day, although a bit cool. Margaret (GR 1-2 teacher) and I took snowmobiles to Soper Falls to take some pictures. It sure is different in the winter.
Today, I'll go into the school for awhile to do some prep, and maybe go for a ski on the ice if it isn't windy.
