School Event
This past Friday we had a yellow ribbon, Celebrate Life Day at the School. For our community, we were celebrating five years without a suicide. In the morning there was a community breakfast put on by the teachers at the school, Then there were various presentations for accomplishments by students, as well as talks by some of the adults in the community who had lost sons or daughters or siblings to suicide. I saw a tender side of some of the students that I hadn't seen before. It was good for me to see that some of the problem kids have some real pain inside, and it was good for the kids to realize that many in their community share their pain.
In the afternoon we had a bit of a concert with various students and adults from the community taking part. We tried to keep it upbeat in keeping with the celebration theme. I've included a picture of one of the locals playing the push-button accordian. I had a chance to play my guitar and accompany a group of high school students singing the song 'Children of the Light' All in all it was a good day and we had many people from the community take part.
I've been house-sitting for my friends Paul and Donna who are back home in Nova Scotia to attend the funeral of Paul's mom. I spend my nights at their house and make my supper at my apartment. It gets a bit hectic but the payoff for me is that Paul has satellite TV. Since I haven't bothered to get cable yet and only get two channels that's a real treat. 'Till next time. Jim
